Lecturer Contract Position in
Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems – Horticultural Science
The College of Life Sciences and Agriculture at the University of New Hampshire seeks an outstanding applicant for an 88 percent time lecturer in sustainable agriculture and food systems. The position will be offered as an academic year 9-month contract renewable for three (3) years pending satisfactory course enrollments and performance.
The candidate will teach four undergraduate courses per academic year that include introductory horticulture and more specialized topics such as greenhouse production and management, fruit crop production and vegetable cropping systems. Through the University’s summer programs, the candidate could also develop and offer a summer practicum that involves hands-on and experiential education in horticultural crop production. The candidate would receive summer instructional compensation for these duties. Opportunities exist to develop additional course(s) based on the successful candidates’ interests and expertise, and for the position to extend beyond three years.
The successful candidate will have a graduate degree (M.S. required, Ph.D. preferred) in horticulture or another relevant field. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching at the college level that demonstrates the ability to engage undergraduate students in a science-based experiential curriculum. Farm experience and knowledge of sustainable and organic production practices along with experience in delivering or developing online curriculum are highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusivity and have the ability to attract student interest in the expanding field of Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems.
This position supports the Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems B.A. and B.S. program, a new inter-departmental major within the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture (www.sustainableag.unh.edu). The position will be housed within the Department of Biological Sciences. UNH has outstanding teaching and research facilities, including greenhouses, two horticultural research farms, and two dairy facilities administered by the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station.
