Welcome
If you imagine research to be the work of remote scientists who wear white jackets, work in isolated laboratories, and are concerned only with abstract theory, then it's time you became acquainted with the faculty of the University of New Hampshire's College of Life Sciences & Agriculture.
More than 100 research projects are underway in the college this year, and much of this work pertains to topics you read about in the newspaper each morning or discuss at the dinner table each night. Our faculty brings their considerable knowledge and experience to bear on issues that concern us all, from improving the quality of the milk our children drink to supporting the development of sustainable industries. Yet our faculty not only seeks solutions, they provide information to advance scientific understanding and help create an informed public opinion.
UNH College of Life Sciences and Agriculture Faculty could be adding to a body of knowledge that may bring a number of health problems under therapeutic control. Or working with colleagues in 15 other states to give welfare policy makers the information they need to chart the course of future programs. In the spring of 2001 our faculty members, along with experts from across the country, lent their expertise to a public discussion of genetically modified organisms. This was part a series of controversial issues symposia, sponsored by UNH and organized by the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture and the Agricultural Experiment Station.
Research in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture involves undergraduate and graduate students working alongside their faculty advisors. The ongoing research opportunities in the college are structured to mentor students in education, leadership and science, producing yet another high quality result - dedicated, motivated, highly employable graduates.
